A 16-year-old boy was charged Thursday with murder and will stand trial as an adult in connection with the death of a 15-year-old girl in Tokyo last November, prosecutors said.
The boy, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, stands accused of fatally stabbing high school student Yua Koyama to death at her home in Machida, western Tokyo, on Nov. 10.
The boy and the girl were schoolmates.
A family court judged the youth mentally competent to stand trial after conducting a psychiatric evaluation and sent the case back to prosecutors earlier this month.
