A 29-year-old woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of setting her apartment in Koto Ward, Tokyo, on fire, killing her 4-year-old daughter, police officials said.

According to police, Kunie Suzuki set a roll of newspaper on fire and placed it inside the entrance of her apartment on Jan. 19, where it burned about 2 sq. meters of wall. Her daughter, Kana, died after inhaling the smoke.

"My husband suspects me of cheating on him and I wanted to make him worry. I set the hallway to our apartment on fire the day before and called him, but he did not seem too worried, so I started another fire to get his attention," police quoted Suzuki as saying.
