An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 jolted northeastern Japan on Sunday evening, the Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the 6:14 p.m. quake. No tsunami warnings were issued.
The quake registered 3 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Iwate and Miyagi prefectures.
