Visiting Honduran President Ricardo Maduro Joest voiced hope Tuesday that a Japan-Central America summit will be held here on Aug. 19, 2005, during the 2005 Aichi World Exposition, a Japanese official said.

"If (the summit) takes place, Central American countries can increase their presence in Japan," Maduro said during a meeting with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, the official said.

Koizumi responded by saying that it is a "very good idea," he said.

The Aichi Expo runs from March 25 to Sept. 25 in Aichi Prefecture. Central American nations are planning to have a joint pavilion there. The date to which Maduro referred is a national day for Central American countries.

Maduro, who is on a five-day visit to Japan, is expected to leave Tokyo on Thursday.
