The Tokyo High Court has slated a March 10 session to take up the requested extradition of researcher Takashi Okamoto, who has been charged with economic espionage in the United States.

Sources said Wednesday the court will hear opinions from Okamoto, 43, a former researcher at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (Riken), his lawyer and prosecutors, as requested by the Tokyo High Public Prosecutor's Office.

They said the court is expected to decide in March whether Japan will meet the U.S. request to extradite Okamoto, who has been detained in Tokyo since Monday.
