China's Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo will come to Japan on Wednesday to meet with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and senior government officials to discuss North Korea's suspected nuclear arms development.
The Foreign Ministry said Monday that Dai is also expected to hold talks with Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi during his five-day visit.
The visit is part of China's active diplomatic efforts to pave the way for a second round of six-nation talks on the North's nuclear program, which will take place as early as next month among China, Japan, the United States, Russia, and South and North Korea.
