OSAKA -- The late Osamu Uno, former chairman of the Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren), left a taxable estate worth 1 billion yen, tax administrators said Monday.
His estate, including real estate, investments, deposits and savings, was passed on to five people, including his widow. The inheritance tax is estimated at 156 million yen, family sources said.
Uno died of cancer last November at age 83. He had served as president and chairman of Toyobo Co., a major textile company.
After he retired, he became chairman of the Osaka area's most powerful business lobby between 1987 and 1994.
Uno was also a chairman of the Local Government System Research Council, an advisory panel to the prime minister.
