Corp. said Tuesday it has joined hands with a major U.S. engineering firm to provide plant services to drug firms and food makers.

The major Japanese construction firm agreed with Pasadena, Calif.-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. to jointly provide plant engineering, construction and maintenance services for Japanese companies in the United States as well as U.S. firms in Japan.

They also plan to exchange information and staff for joint research and for training project engineers, Kajima officials said.

Through the tieup, Kajima will aim to strengthen its engineering proficiency and promote business development in the food and pharmaceutical plant engineering fields, they said.

For Jacobs, it represents a major step in its plan to expand its business network into Japan. Jacobs, one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the United States, handles plant design, construction and maintenance worldwide.
