This event will not take place from March 1 to 15 as Tokyo Skytree is temporarily closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Fans of the hit Playstation video game Final Fantasy VII should rejoice. To coincide with the upcoming release of the game's remake on April 10, the observation decks of Tokyo Skytree in Sumida Ward are holding a special exhibition, until April 22, themed like a Final Fantasy mission. Not even Cloud Strife, the hero of the game, could say "kyōmi nai ne" ("not interested") to an event like this.
The exhibition will span multiple floors, starting on the 445th where there will be a photo area for visitors to pose alongside the game's main characters with a glowing cityscape as a backdrop. The exhibition also includes showpieces that explain the history of the 23-year-old video game.
Every night during the event, the 350th floor will also have screenings of a short movie based on Final Fantasy VII and related videos, which will be projected on a glass wall with dramatic sound effects.
There will be souvenirs available for you to purchase and if you need some sustenance, head to the cafe on the 340th floor where you can get themed refreshments. (Yuki Yamauchi)
Many sporting and cultural events have been canceled or postponed through mid-March due to concerns over COVID-19. Be sure to check with an event's official website or with the venue itself before heading out.
