Hasutaro: Growth, Memory, and Rebirth

Taki Tamada creates her artwork out of cardboard using an unusual method. She peels card into strips and rubs them until they have the appearance of clay before layering them over skeletal frames to create sculptures.

She leaves the card in its original color, often emphasizing the shape of her work through the texture of the medium. Over the past 12 years, she has focused on sculpting animal and insect motifs in both charming and realistic ways.

The "Hasutaro" series was inspired by her parenting experiences and old folk tales. (Yukari Tanaka)
