Teenage wrestling sensation Akari Fujinami snared the women's 53-kilogram gold Thursday at the world championships in Belgrade, extending her winning streak to 127 matches.
Fujinami wrapped up the final in dominant fashion, beating Belarusian Vanesa Kaladzinskaya 10-0 in four minutes, 43 seconds for her second world title.
The 19-year-old from Mie Prefecture will head to her first Olympic Games next summer in Paris as a strong favorite for gold.
"This is really fantastic. I've been working hard for a year to become world champion," she said.
"I want to keep improving so I can show an even stronger version of myself."
Fujinami's unbeaten streak on the mat dates back to September 2017, when she was still in junior high school. She won her first world championship in 2021 but opted not to defend her crown last year while dealing with a foot injury.
Sakura Motoki, who is set to represent Japan in the women's 62-kg class at the Olympics, took silver after losing to Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova in the final.
The world championships, running through Sunday in the Serbian capital, will determine 90 berths for the Paris Games across the men's freestyle, women's wrestling, and Greco-Roman divisions, with national organizing committees to select athletes for each of their countries' allocated slots.
With all women's competition now completed, Japan will be represented in five of the six Olympic women's weight classes in Paris.
