Japan is set to host a Street League Skateboarding Championship Tour event for the first time, sources familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Tokyo's Ariake Arena will be the second stop of the 2023 SLS Championship Tour in August, following the season-opening event in Chicago in April, according to the sources.

Last season, top skaters such as Olympic gold medalists Yuto Horigome and Momiji Nishiya competed on the tour, representing Japan.

SLS was launched in the United States in 2010 to foster the growth, popularity and acceptance of street skateboarding worldwide.

Outside the United States, Championship Tour events have been staged in cities such as London and Rio de Janeiro.
