Japanese midfielder Ritsu Doan is set to transfer from FC Groningen to fellow Dutch first-division side PSV Eindhoven, the latter club announced Tuesday.

The 21-year-old joined Groningen in 2017 from the J. League's Gamba Osaka and scored nine goals in his first season with the Eredivisie club.

"We wanted to bolster our squad with the signing of a versatile attacker," said PSV director of football John de Jong on the team's website.

"Doan perfectly fits our profile and we are very satisfied we have been able to reach an agreement with FC Groningen."

Doan debuted for Japan's national team last September and played a key role in helping the country finish runner-up in this year's Asian Cup.

PSV Eindhoven, one of the Netherlands' big three clubs which have historically dominated the Eredivisie, finished second in the 18-team Dutch top flight last season.
