Kento Momota, Wakana Nagahara and Mayu Matsumoto became the first Japanese to repeat as badminton world champions on Sunday.

On the final day of the world championships, Nagahara and Matsumoto made history by defending the women’s doubles title they won last year in China. The top seeds beat compatriots Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota 21-11, 20-22, 23-21 in 1 hour, 25 minutes in the day’s first final.
