The Japan Football Association said Wednesday the women's national team will contest a tournament in the United States from late July involving four of the strongest sides in the world.

Nadeshiko Japan, currently 11th in the FIFA rankings, will open the round-robin tournament on July 26 against the host nation, ranked No. 1 in the world, followed by a match against No. 8 Brazil on July 29.

Japan will play its final game against sixth-ranked Australia on Aug. 2 in a rematch of last month's Women's Asian Cup final in Jordan, when Nadeshiko edged the Matildas 1-0.

Japan head coach Asako Takakura said the tournament would provide important preparation for the 2019 Women's World Cup in France.

"I want to see how Nadeshiko Japan match up against the strongest countries, with a view to the next Women's World Cup," Takakura said.

Nadeshiko Japan could only manage one draw in last year's tournament, with two defeats.
