Sanfrecce's Koji Morisaki to retire at end of season

Sanfrecce Hiroshima midfielder Koji Morisaki will retire at the end of this season, the reigning J. League champions announced on Thursday.

The 35-year-old Morisaki has spent his entire career with Hiroshima since joining them in 2000 and was a member of Japan’s Olympic team at the 2004 Athens Games.

“I feel sad but I have arrived at this point having given it my all so I think I can retire with no regrets,” Morisaki said in a statement.

As of Thursday, Morisaki, whose twin brother Kazuyuki also plays for Hiroshima, has made 257 appearances in the J. League first division, scoring 40 goals.
