Nanako Fujita is set to make her overseas debut at a Ladies World Championship race on Aug. 19 at Sandown Park Racecourse in England, the Japan Racing Association announced Saturday.

The 18-year-old Fujita became the first female jockey from the JRA in 16 years when she made her debut in March, and has won two national races so far.

"Just going abroad will be first time for me, and I'm surprised to be invited," Fujita said. "I'll do my best to get a good result."

Fujita is set to appear in the 13th race of the Ladies World Championship series, competed over 14 events over the course of a year, with invited female jockeys from around the world.

Fujita will be steering a purebred Arabian in the English event, with a draw to be made on which horse to ride. A good result there could see her advancing to the final of the competition to be held in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 13 when the top-ranked jockeys will compete.
