Japan coach Vahid Halilhodzic said on Monday he is planning to get together his European-based players that have just finished their seasons with their club sides for training next week.

"The (training) menus will be divided up according to the condition of the players and we will adjust the workload," said Halilhodzic. The training will begin on May 23, according to a source.

Halilhodzic is expected to start a full training camp at the end of this month ahead of the Kirin Cup in June. The four-way tournament features Japan, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bulgaria.

The Kirin Cup games will be played on June 3 at Aichi Prefecture's Toyota Stadium and June 7 at Osaka's Suita Stadium.

Hannover midfielder Hotaru Yamaguchi, who suffered a broken nose and upper jaw in a World Cup qualifying 5-0 win over Syria in Saitama in March, paid a visit to Halilhodzic the same day at the Japan Football Association's headquarters in Tokyo.

Halilhodzic said he encouraged Yamaguchi, whose club side has been relegated to the German second division, "to show courage" and told him he would call him to the training sessions for the European-based players.

The Franco-Bosnian coach, who took over the national team in March last year, turned 64 on Sunday and was sent a birthday cake from the media.

"This last year has gone by so quickly. There is less distance between myself and the players," he said.
