Jubilo Iwata striker Jay Bothroyd has been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and is expected to rejoin his teammates for training early next month, the J. League first-division side said on Thursday.

The former Cardiff City forward, who is the second-top scorer in J1 so far this season with six goals, suffered the injury on April 10 against Albirex Niigata, but his recovery has been slower than he had hoped.

The 33-year-old Bothroyd scored a division-high 20 goals in J2 last year to help Iwata win promotion back to the top flight.
