Former Japan defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka is leaving Nagoya Grampus, a source close to the matter said Saturday.

According to the source, Tulio’s agent told Grampus president Kazumasa Kume that he would not be accepting the offer of a new contract.

The 34-year-old Tulio joined Grampus from Urawa Reds in 2010 and helped Grampus win their first ever J. League title that season.

Tulio was also a mainstay last season, making 30 league appearances, but Grampus finished in ninth place.

Due to results in 2015, Nagoya has lowered annual salaries and was waiting for Tulio to respond to their offer.
