The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles have signed 28-year-old first baseman-designated hitter Japhet Amador, this year's Mexican League MVP, the Pacific League club announced Thursday.

The 193-cm, 135-kg Amador led his league this year with 41 home runs and 117 RBIs for Mexico City Red Devils. The Mexican will be on a one-year deal estimated at ¥30 million yen (roughly $249,000).

The Eagles, who have finished last the past two seasons, had Nippon Professional Baseball's worst offense this year. Rakuten finished last in the PL in runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, and were last in NPB in on-base percentage and slugging average.
