Koichiro Morioka booked his third straight Olympic berth after he won a 50-km race walk trial in Yamagata Prefecture on Sunday within the qualifying standard time.
The 30-year-old clocked 3 hours, 44 minutes and 27 seconds, making the cut by 35 seconds to qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics. Tomofumi Kanno (3:54.24) came second followed by Takuya Yoshida.
Takayuki Tanii secured his ticket to Brazil in August when he won the bronze at the worlds in Beijing in 3:42.55. The last spot remains up for grabs and will be decided after the national championship next April.
