INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA – Hideki Matsuyama and Australian partner Adam Scott tasted defeat Thursday in the opening foursomes at the Presidents Cup.
Matsuyama, who struggled with his putting from early in the match, and Scott lost 3&2 to Americans Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes. The U.S. team has a 4-1 lead over the International team at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea.
World No. 1 Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson beat Australians Danny Lee and Marc Leishman 4&3 to help the U.S. get off to a strong start.
Matsuyama was not selected to the team for the four-ball on Friday.
