Sanfrecce Hiroshima forward Hisato Sato was named as a candidate to win FIFA's Puskas Award for the world's best goal this past year.

Sato joins World Cup sensation James Rodriguez of Columbia and the Netherlands' Robin van Persie on the 10-man shortlist. Sato was nominated for his March 18 equalizer against Kawasaki Frontale.

With his back to the goal at edge of the penalty area, Sato received a pass, flicked it up and while on the spin executed a looping volley over 'keeper Yohei Nishibe and into the back of the net.

Fans vote on the award through FIFA's website. The award will be announced on Jan. 12 at FIFA's annual award ceremony.
