Tomomi Okazaki, who skated for Japan at five Winter Olympics, said Saturday she will retire, after failing to make the team for the 2014 Sochi Games.

The 42-year-old Okazaki, who won a bronze medal in the women's 500 meters at the 1998 Nagano Games, finished sixth at M-Wave, where the second day of the Olympic selection meet was held.

"I've done what I had to do," she said.

Japan has four berths in the women's 500 meters for Sochi, leaving Okazaki out of the picture.

Nao Kodaira, who had already punched her ticket to Sochi with her results so far this season on the World Cup circuit, was the winner.
