Hakuho showed fellow Mongolian yokozuna Harumafuji how it's done as he outclassed Homasho to move to 5-0 on Thursday at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.
Harumafuji, making his debut at the top of sumo's food chain, barely broke a sweat in dispensing second-ranked maegashira Kaisei by uwatedashinage, improving to 4-1. Kaisei is still in search of his first victory.
A third of the way through the 15-day meet, just four wrestlers remained unbeaten including Hakuho, who is trying to lift the Emperor's Cup for the first time since the March tournament.
Hakuho had been 14-0 for his career against komusubi Homasho, and the dominance continued Thursday. Homasho, now a miserable 0-5, failed to put up a fight in the final bout as Hakuho flung him to the dirt like a ragdoll.
Also undefeated are sekiwake Goeido, who floored third-ranked Takekaze (2-3), and a pair of maegashira, No.6 Toyonoshima and No. 15 Chiyotairyu who stayed on the title track with a win each off Aoiyama and Asahisho.
Kisenosato was sidetracked in pursuit of his first title, suffering his first defeat against Shohozan (3-2), who has scalped three ozeki at this tournament alone. Shohozan will face Hakuho on Friday.
Ozeki Kotoshogiku and Kotooshu, needing a winning records here to keep their No. 2 standing in the sport, safely went up to 4-1 after beating Tochnoshin (1-4) and Aminishiki (1-4), respectively.
