Japan’s Kimiko Date-Krumm and her partner Heather Watson of Britain were bundled out of the final of the Japan Women’s Open in two sets on Sunday at Utsubo Tennis Center.

The pair fell 6-1, 6-4 to Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears in 1 hour, 5 minutes. Watson was aiming to add the doubles title to her already impressive afternoon, having beaten Taiwan’s Chang Kai-chen 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(4) in the singles final.

Watson saved four match points to become Britain’s first women’s champion at a WTA event since Sara Gomer’s triumph in 1988 in Aptos, California. Watson and Chang were both appearing in their first WTA final.
