Chieko Sugawara and Kanae Ikehata were both eliminated in the women's individual foil quarterfinals at the London Olympics on Saturday.
Sugawara lost to Italy's Elisa Di Francisca 15-9, while Ikehata fell 15-6 to Beijing Olympic silver medalist Nam Hyun Hee of South Korea.
Sugawara lost in the quarterfinals for the second consecutive Olympics.
Shiho Nishioka, the other Japanese fencer in the draw, lost to Italy's three-time Olympic champion Valentina Vezzali 14-8 in the second round.
