Japan women’s volleyball players awarded ¥1 million bonuses

The Japan Volleyball Association on Tuesday decided at its executive board meeting to reward the 12 members of the national women’s volleyball team with bonuses of ¥1 million each for qualifying for the London Olympics.

The JVA said it would reward the women with ¥3 million each if they strike gold in London, with a silver medal worth ¥2 million per player and a bronze ¥1 million each.

Members of the men’s team, which is involved in the final Olympic qualification tournament starting in Tokyo on Friday, will receive the same bonuses as the women’s team if they secure a ticket to the English capital.

Japan’s women guaranteed themselves a spot in London on Sunday in the final match of a women’s qualifying meet in Tokyo.
