Toru Taniguchi held on to his overnight lead to win the Japan PGA Championship on Sunday for the fourth major title of his career.
Taniguchi shot a 1-over-par 73 to finish at 4-under 284, one stroke clear of fellow veteran Keiichiro Fukabori at Karasuyamajo Country Club.
Taniguchi carried a one-shot lead into the par-4 18th hole, which features a double-tiered green sloping severely from back to front.
His second shot left Taniguchi a downhill putt of about 50 feet, but the two-time JGTO money list champion lagged his first putt to within tap-in distance for par.
"I was confident that I could two-putt from anywhere on that 18th green," the 44-year-old said. "For that last hole, I kind of knew the speed of the green because I happened to see tournament officials check the firmness of the green by rolling balls after the third round."
