MIYAZAKI – South Korea’s Jeon Mi Jeong captured her first major title with a wire-to-wire victory at the season-ending Japan LPGA Tour Championship on Sunday.
Jeong closed with a 1-under 71 for an 8-under 280 total, two strokes clear of compatriot Song Bo Bae, at Miyazaki Country Club.
Her first win of the season and 17th of her JLPGA career earned the 29-year-old ¥25 million.
Song pulled within one shot of Jeong with a birdie on the par-3 16th hole, but Jeong birdied the par-4 17th to push his lead back to two.
“I’m glad to win on this golf course, where I have a lot of bitter memories in the past,” Jeong said. “During the round, I kept telling myself to overcome myself.”
Ahn Sung Ju, Lee Ji Hee and Junko Omote all shot 69s to share third place at 4 under.
