YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) Yokohama F. Marinos on Tuesday named former Japan international midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura as the team's captain for the upcoming season.
"With everyone's cooperation I will make a big effort so that when it comes to the end of the season people hopefully will think I was the right person for the captain's job," Nakamura said in a club statement.
The 32-year-old playmaker, who brought his international career to a close after the World Cup in South Africa last summer, rejoined Yokohama last year after several seasons in Europe with Reggina, Celtic and Espanyol.
