Mongolian yokozuna Hakuho brushed aside Toyonoshima in convincing fashion on the second day of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament on Monday.

Hakuho met Toyonoshima for the first time since beating him in a playoff on the final day of the Kyushu meet last November after the pair finished with 14-1 records in regulation.

But in the final bout at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Hakuho never gave his smaller opponent a chance, getting his right hand inside on the top-ranked maegashira's mawashi before thrashing him over the edge with a powerful thrusting technique.
