SHIZUOKA (Kyodo) Japan defender Yuichi Komano will be out for three months after breaking his right upper arm in the friendly against South Korea earlier this week, his J. League club Jubilo Iwata announced Friday.

The World Cup right-back had surgery Thursday and will miss the nine games left in the season for Jubilo, who will also play Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the Nov. 3 Nabisco Cup final.

Komano suffered the injury early in the first half of the 0-0 draw in Seoul, crashing hard into the ground after an aerial challenge in the penalty area.
