SAITAMA (Kyodo) Takashi Uchiyama beat Roy Mukhlis of Indonesia by TKO as the WBA super featherweight champion defended his title for the second time Monday.

Uchiyama went to work on the No. 5 challenger in the fifth round, startling the Southeast Asian with a hard right before unloading on Mukhlis to take him down.

The referee stopped the fight halfway through the count as the 30-year-old Uchiyama posted his sixth straight knockout victory before his native Saitama fans.

Uchiyama is 16-for-16 for his career with 13 knockouts.

"I kept going at his body, and it was affecting his concentration," Uchiyama said. "I got him good with a right hook at the end. All the hard work paid off. I think I can get stronger and stronger."
