NAGASAKI (Kyodo) Toru Taniguchi shot a flawless 5-under 65 Saturday to share the lead with Tetsuji Hiratsuka after the third round of the Japan PGA Championship, the first of the JGTO Tour’s three majors in 2010.
The 2002 and 2007 money champion was tied at 8-under 202 with Hiratsuka, who only managed an even-par 70 after starting the day with a three-shot lead, at Passage Kinkai Island Golf Club.
After back-to-back birdies from the fourth hole, Taniguchi highlighted his round by holing out with a wedge from 87 yards for an eagle on the par-4 sixth.
The 42-year-old added a birdie on the 17th.
Hiroyuki Fujita and Shingo Katayama were three shots back in a tie for third after rounds of 68 and 69, respectively.
