Song fires 5-under 67 in opening round


South Korean Song Bo Bae shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Fujisankei Ladies Classic on Friday.

Song, a three-time winner on the Japan LPGA Tour, birdied two of her first three holes before picking up three more shots on the back nine at Kawana Hotel Golf Course.

Mayu Hattori also had a flawless round to sit alone in second. She made a chip-in eagle on the par-5 16th.

Last week’s Nishijin Ladies Classic winner Park In Bee and Chie Arimura shared third another shot behind.

Sakura Yokomine, the 2009 money list leader, Shinobu Moromizato and Shin Ji Yai carded 71s to tie for 11th at 1 under.

Maruyama holds lead

KAWANISHI , Hyogo Pref. (Kyodo) Daisuke Maruyama shot a bogey-free 7-under 64 Friday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Tsuruya Open.

The former U.S. PGA player had four birdies on the front nine and added three more coming in at Yamanohara Golf Club.

Maruyama lost to Komei Oda in a three-way playoff at the season-opening Token Homemate Cup last week.

Little-known Hirohito Koizumi placed second after snapping up nine birdies against three bogeys.

Veteran Hiroyuki Fujita was alone in third a shot further back.

Ryo Ishikawa opened with a 70 that left him tied for 36th, while Yuta Ikeda shot a 71.

The tournament has been reduced to 54 holes after rain forced the cancellation of Thursday’s play.
