BOSTON (Kyodo) Boston Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka tried to clear the air on Thursday about "some misunderstandings," issuing a statement regarding private conversations he had which appeared to criticize his team.

Comments had been released in the media over the past few days that quoted Matsuzaka as expressing frustration with the Red Sox's training program and suggesting that it was a reason for his struggles and health issues this season.

But the 28-year-old said he never made such comments and that he and the team are now working together to communicate and bridge any cultural gaps that might have been lost in translation.

"As for the reports from the past several days, I want to correct some misunderstandings," Matsuzaka said.
