ENIWA, Hokkaido (Kyodo) Unheralded Yuta Ikeda fired a 5-under-par 65 Friday for a three-way share of the lead in the first round at the Japan PGA Championship, the second major of the season.

The 23-year-old Ikeda, who is seeking his first career title on the JGTO tour, rolled in six birdies and a bogey to move in front with tour debutant Shintaro Domoto and Norio Shinozaki at Eniwa Country Club.

Kaname Yokoo was a shot back in a group of five, including Shigeru Nonaka, in a tie for fourth, while Yuji Igarashi, who captured his first career title at the age of 40 one week ago at the Japan Golf Tour Championship, was at 1-over.
