OSAKA (Kyodo) Premier League champions the Toray Arrows defeated the Hisamitsu Springs 25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 27-25 in the women’s final at the national invitational meet on Wednesday.
The victory gave Toray’s women their first invitational title in five years but defending men’s champions the Panasonic Panthers prevented an Arrows sweep by beating the league and national title winners 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 at Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium.
Panasonic wing-spiker Kunihiro Shimizu was named the men’s tournament MVP while the women’s honor went to Toray’s Saori Kimura.
