Left-hander Les Walrond pitched a three hitter over five shutout innings and Yuki Yoshimura homered as the Yokohama BayStars beat the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles 3-1 in a preseason game on Tuesday.

Walrond, who has had stints with three major league clubs, walked three and struck out three and four relievers held the Rakuten bats to one run the rest of the way at Odawara Stadium.

Yoshimura, batting in the cleanup spot, went 2-for-3. Eagles right-hander Satoshi Nagai struck out 10 but allowed three runs and six hits in six innings of work.

In other action, Tokyo Yakult Swallows right-hander Masao Kida threw five scoreless innings and Kazuki Fukuchi, Yasushi Iihara and Yuichi Matsumoto each had two hits in a 7-6 win over the Yomiuri Giants. Kentaro Nishimura yielded six runs in 4 2/3 shaky innings.

Chiba Lotte Marines right-hander Yuta Omine continued to build a strong case for a spot in the starting rotation, tossing five shutout innings with six strikeouts against the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks. Tomoya Satozaki hit a solo homer to help Lotte to a 4-2 win.

Greg LaRocca, Alex Cabrera, Tuffy Rhodes and Jose Fernandez each homered to lead an 18-hit attack in the Orix Buffaloes' 13-7 victory over the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. Nippon Ham took a 3-0 lead but homers by the four in the sixth made it 5-3.
