SAITAMA (Kyodo) Urawa Reds striker Naohiro Takahara injured a cyclist in a road accident while driving his car in Saitama Prefecture on Saturday, Reds officials said Sunday.

Takahara left a 24-year-old man with a broken toe when he knocked him off his bicycle in a collision at a crossing in Saitama's Urawa Ward at around 5:10 p.m., according to the J. League club's press office.

Takahara, 29, has struggled since joining Urawa from German Bundesliga club side Eintracht Frankfurt last year and his slump in form led to him being dropped by Japan national team coach Takeshi Okada in May.
