Left-hander Ken Takahashi, who has declared himself a free agent from the Hiroshima Carp with the hope of playing in the major leagues, has narrowed down talks to four big league clubs.

"We have narrowed down our choices to four teams for a major league contract," Takahashi's agent Go Nakanishi said Friday without revealing the names of the clubs.

The 39-year-old Yokohama native appeared excited that he is close to fulfilling his goal, despite facing difficulties with contractual talks due to the world economic crisis.

"There is now a possibility that I will have the chance to play in the majors," Takahashi said.
