Kenji Yano hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning as the Yomiuri Giants rallied to beat the Softbank Hawks 7-3 on Thursday.

Yano’s shot to deep left off Takayuki Shinohara (0-1) came with one out and the bases loaded, giving Yomiuri a 4-3 lead at Tokyo Dome.

Shinnosuke Abe also connected off the left-handed reliever in the eighth for a three-run shot.

Softbank was on course to win the game, having built a 3-0 lead on a two-run homer by Hitoshi Tamura in the third and a solo drive from Hidenori Tanoue in the fourth. Nagisa Arakaki had carried a shutout into the seventh.

At Toyohashi Stadium in Aichi Pref., Motonobu Tanishige hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the fourth inning among his four hits as Chunichi defeated Rakuten to snap a three-game losing streak.

Tyrone Woods and Norihiro Nakamura each hit a solo home run in the second to give Chunichi a 2-0 lead before RBI singles from Yosuke Takasu and Koichi Isobe tied the score for Rakuten in the third.
