Japan's Under-22s powered past Malaysia 2-1 for their second straight victory in a second-round qualifier for next year's Beijing Olympics on Wednesday.

FC Tokyo striker Sota Hirayama found the net 13 minutes into the first half, connecting on Nagoya Grampus Eight striker Keisuke Honda's corner kick, followed by a decisive goal from Kashiwa Reysol substitute striker Lee Chun Son with 14 minutes remaining. Malaysia scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes.

ROME (Kyodo) Calcio Catania's Japanese striker Takayuki Morimoto underwent successful knee surgery on Wednesday, the Italian League club said on its Web site.

The 18-year-old Morimoto, who ruptured ligaments in his left knee during practice last week, is expected to leave hospital within days, the club said.
