Kato spearheads Alpine dominance

Chika Kato led Japan to a 1-2 finish to capture the gold medal in the Alpine skiing women’s slalom at the Winter Asian Games on Friday.

Kato posted a two-run time of 1 minute, 24.83 seconds to finish 0.95 second ahead of Moe Hanaoka while the bronze medal went to South Korean Oh Jae Un, who timed 1:27.77.

Kato’s victory followed gold medal performances by compatriots Emiko Kiyosawa and Yasuhiro Ikuta in the women’s and men’s giant slalom events. Kiyosawa was disqualified after the first run in the slalom event.
