Japan’s Ai Fukuhara and Ai Fujinuma settled for the women’s doubles bronze medal at the Asian championships after a 4-1 semifinal defeat at the hands of a powerful Chinese pair Thursday.

Niu Jianfeng, ranked second in the world, and fifth-ranked Guo Yue outplayed the Japanese pair from the outset to take the first three games en route to an 11-5, 11-9, 11-9, 5-11, 11-2 victory. In the men’s singles, high school student Jun Mizutani lost in the fourth round.
