Defending champion Komadai Tomakomai made a stunning comeback in the seventh inning Wednesday, overcoming a five-run deficit to beat Naruto Kogyo 7-6 to reach the semifinals of the national high school baseball championship.

Down 6-1, the Hokkaido school sent 11 batters to the plate to drive in six runs in the big inning at Koshien Stadium and never looked back as it strengthened its bid to become only the sixth school in tournament history to win back-to-back titles.

In other quarterfinal action, Kyoto Gaidai Nishi rallied in a 9-1 rout of Kagoshima's Shonan.
