Katsumasa Miyamoto got off to a strong start in his bid to end a two-year victory drought Thursday, shooting a 5-under-par 66 to take the lead after the first round of the Woodone Open.

Miyamoto carded an eagle, seven birdies and four bogeys at the Hiroshima Country Club on his way to a one-shot lead over eight players on a crowded leaderboard.

Defending champion Shingo Katayama fired an opening 69.
