Yohei Saiga pitched his second straight complete-game shutout Wednesday as Aikodai Meiden of Aichi Prefecture beat Ube Shogyo of Yamaguchi 2-0 to advance into the quarterfinals of the national high school invitational baseball tournament.

Saiga held Ube Shogyo to four hits while striking out six and walking one at Koshien Stadium, leading last year's runnerup to the quarterfinals of the annual spring tournament for the second consecutive year.

Hiroki Kojima singled home a run to open the scoring in the fourth and Naomichi Donoue made it 2-0 for Aikodai Meiden on a sixth-inning RBI groundout.

In Wednesday's second-round action, Nara's Tenri pounded out 19 hits off four Ichihasama Shogyo pitchers to crush the Miyagi school 19-2 and Haguro of Yamagata Prefecture beat Hiroshima's Josuikan 8-2 in a 14-hit attack.
